Culture Connect offers a range of set departure Tours and bespoke or suggested Charters that visit Cooya Beach.

Cooya Beach is located north of Cairns approximately a 1hour & 15min drive, situated adjacent to Mossman Gorge and the Daintree National Park.

At Cooya Beach we join the Walker Brothers on their Coastal Beach and Mangrove walk.

Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat Tours

Kuku Yalanji Traditional Custodian will meet with visitors to their traditional homeland on Cooya beach where they continue to practice their cultural activities and maintain their cultural heritage.

After explaining the cultural importance of this country, guides will introduce guests to their traditional fishing activity of spear throwing and handling as it is still practiced here today.

Visitors will then follow their cultural guide with a spear each along Cooya beach observing cultural medicine and food plants. The guides will then take guests along with them as they continue their daily spear fishing and gathering for their families into the mangroves and onto the mudflats.

After about 2hrs of cultural activities and coastal walking guests will return with the guides to see Kuku Yalanji artefacts and share rare stories from their traditional land while they prepare their daily food for their families.

“Culture Connect is about connecting people with Aboriginal culture.”

Our aim is to take people on a journey, not only physically but also spiritually. We hope the landscape comes alive in their mind and they can understand and feel the story. With each experience our guests gain a wealth of knowledge about Aboriginal heritage, culture, traditions and beliefs from the Traditional Owners.
We believe that the future for Aboriginal people to be empowered is to support business ventures on homelands. We recognize that Tourism and Education is a way to keep traditional and contemporary cultural practices alive.
