Culture and Nature
If you are interested in nature and gaining knowledge about indigenous culture then this is the tour for you. There was a small group on the day of our tour (7 in total) which made it a personal experience rather than feeling like a tour. After an early morning pickup with our guide Roger we took a stunning scenic drive to Cooya Beach where we were greeted by Linc, a traditional owner from the Kuku Yalanji tribe. We walked a long way out across the sand at low tide and the views of the coastline and mountains were beautiful The tour included Linc providing information about bushtucker including traditional seafood and medicines .We walked into the mangroves to find periwinkles and clams. After the walk along the beach we were welcomed into the family home for morning tea which included Lincs mums homemade damper. Thank you Linc for your generosity and hospitality and Roger for your great insight into Indigenous culture. This tour was a highlight of our trip.
If you’re looking for a unique outdoor experience with culture, adventure and nature in mind, this is for you! One of the best thing we’ve done as a family and our 2 boys (9 & 11) will remember it forever. Linc was the ultimate hands-on tour guide, sharing his incredible knowledge as we meandered along the mud flats, opening our eyes to a whole new world. It’s a laid back, no frills experience, with the perfect finish – delicious fresh mud crab cooked by Linc’s lovely mum. Highly recommended!
Scenery,culture and great food!!
Our tour guide was Roger who gave us a lot of information about Aboriginal culture as we traveled along a beautiful coastal drive. We went out with Brandon and Linc in a small group. Everyone practiced throwing spears on the beach, then we walked through the shallow water collecting cowrie shells, looking out for stingrays and crabs. We then collected oysters and mussels in the mangroves, learnt about bush food and medicine on the beach, and finally went back to the house where all the collected food was cooked and served to us. Absolutely delicious! Linc demonstrated boomerangs and other cultural artifacts in a fascinating talk …. but the food and teaching from Brandon was tops!
